Picterra’s new portal enables easy access to satellite and aerial imagery
Information from Picterra
Picterra has made access to existing aerial and satellite data an easy task via its portal: https://picterra.ch/imagery. Here users can find free data ready to import to the Picterra platform for extraction and analyses. The portal also offers the option to order new satellite and aerial imagery, with more seamless imagery access options to be introduced in the coming weeks.
It is also possible to add new imagery with nothing more than a URL, as the platform can ingest Web Map Services (WMS) and other tile services (e.g. XYZ) for visualisation and processing. This is made possible with the Cloud Optimized Geotiffs (COG) format, which allows streaming the portion of an image file via an HTTP request. This has resulted in the technical details of accessing COG geotiffs or web/tile map services to become similar, and has enabled a unified processing pipeline.
Some of the imagery already available in the portal include Sentinel satellite imagery via Sentinel-hub WMS service, aerial imagery from OpenAerialMap, and high-resolution satellite imagery via SkyWatch EarthCache service, with Maxar SecureWatch WMS service, Planet monthly and weekly basemaps, and Airbus OneAtlas basemap.
