Mapbox Maps adds 150 million new buildings for comprehensive coverage in geographies including Tanzania and Uganda
By Ben Levin, Mapbox
Mapbox has added more than 150 million buildings in the United States, Canada, Australia, UAE, Tanzania and Uganda to its map, a 360% increase for its building coverage.
The new building data improves coverage in cities that previously only had building data in urban cores. Like all of its data sources, this new building layer is validated across multiple dimensions including valid geometry, source conflict, satellite/aerial imagery, and through manual review.
The company uses many sources, but specifically thanked the Microsoft Maps Team and the global OpenStreetMap community for their continued curation and creation of high-quality building data.
Mapbox clients can use the buildings data now with Style Components in the company’s new Studio interface.
