NavVis introduces cloud processing for laser scanning workflows

NavVis introduced the Cloud Processing Add-on for its IndoorViewer software, a cloud-based tool that enables users to convert laser scans into survey-grade, photo-realistic point clouds from data captured by the company’s M6 mobile mapping system and its wearable VLX system. Once the data is captured, the entire NavVis post-processing and visualisation workflow can now be conducted in the cloud.
The company’s users traditionally invest in their own computing infrastructure to convert the scan data into photorealistic point clouds. With the Cloud Processing Add-on, they have the option to upload multiple datasets and process large data volumes using cloud computing. The cloud solution allows data sets to be processed in parallel.
The add-on’s streamlined interface lets users choose point cloud settings in advance and flags potential errors that could interrupt the run. Processing begins automatically, indicating progress with a live progress bar and notifying users via email when the job is complete.
This new tool is featured within NavVis Cloud, the cloud-based, on-demand version of NavVis IndoorViewer. This means that once data has been processed, users can view and interact with their processed data in the form of 360° immersive imagery, survey-grade point clouds and customisable floorplans.
