BIMHarambee.Africa Student Competition seeks high-speed building information modelling projects for African smart cities

Press Release 13 Jul - 15:43 SAST

The BIMHarambee.Africa Student Competition builds on the BIMHarambee.Africa 2021 theme “BIM in 2030” and building information modelling’s role in smart cities, the learnings of which will inform the conference’s panel discussion on 21 October 2021. There are no entry fees for this competition.

Interdisciplinary student teams across Africa are invited to demonstrate their BIM capabilities by producing the highest quality BIM as-built model within the shortest amount of production time (BIM production sprint) while exploring how to use BIM to make existing buildings smarter and become smart city ready. The aim is to find ways BIM could help to improve the management and sustainability of existing buildings in Africa, and make existing buildings smart city ready.

The winning team will receive $1500, with an additional Innovation Award prize of $500 to be awarded for the most innovative solution. The competition runs from 5 July 2021 to 1 October 2021. A team’s registration date will be considered their BIM production sprint start date. The competition submission consists of four components:

  • Building base assets (surveys or scans)
  • BIM as-built model
  • Competition team narrated slideshow
  • An edited video documentary which captures the team’s competition sprint

BIMHarambee.Africa is a collaboration between BIM Africa and BIMcommUNITYAfrica, and promotes BIM knowledge and expertise on the African continent.
