Information from Africa Earth Observation
The Africa Earth Observation (AEO) Challenge 2021 opens for entries today from businesses across the African continent who can make submissions demonstrating a clear application of Earth observation data.
The annual open innovation challenge has been inviting novel space technology applications since 2016, with the aim to identify promising early-stage businesses and develop them into companies
This year’s focus is “Driving geospatial readiness across the African continent through African talent”. Business-ready African innovators and entrepreneurs are invited to submit novel business ideas. Finalists will be selected to enter a two-week business development programme, preparing them for their pitches to a panel of judges and other industry players afterwards.
The three winning submissions will win a combination of prizes, including:
- Access to earth observation data packages from Maxar:
- 1st place: $10,000
- 2nd place: $5000
- 3rd place: $5000
- Amazon Web Services Activate credits:
- 1st place: $5,000
- 2nd place: $3,000
- 3rd place: $2,000
- Four-month incubation and virtual mentorship worth up to $24 000, including mentorship and support from the GEN Space, Digital Earth Africa and Amazon Web Services.
