Planet adds 44 SuperDove satellites to its constellation

On 13 January 2022, Planet’s Flock 4x, consisting of 44 SuperDove satellites, were launched to join the company’s fleet of roughly 200 satellites in orbit. Contact was established with all of the SuperDove satellites.

The company now has more than 240 satellites in orbit. Flock 4x replenishes the its existing SuperDove fleet, which makes up a portion of the larger PlanetScope constellation that images 350 million km² of Earth each day at approximately 3 meter per pixel resolution.

The constellations provide daily insights into Earth’s resources and global events. Planet’s fleet of medium- and high-resolution satellites have collected Earth observation data over the last 10 years, creating a deep stack of 1700 images on average for every spot on the Earth’s landmass. This allows gives its customers up-to-date images of their preferred area of interest, as well as extensive sets of training data on which to build artificial intelligence models.
