FIG signs agreement with Stand for Her Land to promote collaboration

By the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG)

The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) and Stand for Her Land Campaign (S4HL) have agreed to work together to:

  • Support understanding of S4HL and issues related to women’s land rights
  • Support collaborative efforts
  • Jointly promote the work of S4HL and FIG

S4HL is administered by the Rural Development Institute doing business as Landesa. The initiative focuses on collective action and advocacy at grassroots, national, and global level to close this gap between global commitments and local practice, and to build a gender equal society.

According to S4HL, “stronger land rights can empower women, while also increasing investments in land, spending on food and education, and improving child nutrition”. It further says that because land is central to power and identity, control over land is fundamental to gender justice. Unfortunately, despite recent progress to ensure women’s equal legal rights to land and housing, practice of this in law and policy frameworks often lags behind.

FIG is a United Nations and World Bank recognised non-governmental organisation of national member associations and covers the whole range of professional fields within the global surveying community. It provides an international forum for discussion and development aiming to promote professional practice and standards.
