This Kartoza course will give you the basic skills and knowledge to establishing an enterprise geographic information system (GIS) or improving your current system with the use of free and open source (FOSS) tools. This includes creating and populating a spatial database, installing a web map server, publishing OGC map services, composing a web map, viewing and searching it in a desktop and a web client, understanding architectural guidelines for a corporate environment, and administering the system.
Software covered in this course include Ubuntu Linux server, Apache and Tomcat, OpenGeo Enterprise Suite, PostgreSQL RDBMS with PostGIS, GeoServer, GeoWebCache, GeoExt, OpenLayers, and QGIS (desktop and server), amongst others. This course is for experienced GIS users, system or database administrators, webmasters, or developers. The use of personal laptops is required for this course. Participants are eligible for 2 (category 1b) continued professional development (CPD) points.
