Preliminary design for roads: a BIM and GIS solution

April 23 11:00 am 12:30 pm SAST

Civil infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and tunnels are notoriously difficult projects to take on, not just because of their often large scale, but more so because often these projects need to be built while the world around them continues to operate. GIS and BIM are powerful solutions to help civil design professionals plan a civil infrastructure project such as a road from feasibility to preliminary design.

In this webinar, Baker Baynes’ Shuaib Yunos will demonstrate how to use GIS and Autodesk BIM technologies for preliminary road designs. The webinar is specifically aimed at civil engineering professionals involved with road design; GIS professionals involved in route determination; structural engineering professionals involved in bridge and tunnel design; and project managers involved in overseeing project collaboration.

Attendees will learn to:

  • Utilise Esri ArcGIS for road feasibility and route optioneering
  • Gauge the impacts on communities along the proposed route in the earliest design phases of the project
  • Incorporate GIS data from the feasibility phase into the BIM planning, concept and preliminary design phases
  • Use Autodesk BIM Intelligent tools for intelligent and visually rich road, bridge and tunnel design
